Should I replace or Repair my A/C?
It’s a fairly common question we are asked all the time: should I replace my air conditioner with a new unit or can I repair my old one? With your air conditioner being such an important part of your home, it’s natural to want it to last as long as possible. However, replacing your air conditioner at the right time can help you avoid going without it as well as help you get the most out of your investment. So how do you know when the time is right for a replacement? The answer can vary from home to home, but there are a few things you can look for which indicate that it may be time to replace your old air conditioner.
A few of these symptoms can include:
Your air conditioner is more than 10 years old
Your air conditioner your air conditioner needs more than one major ($1,000+) repair per year
Your air conditioner consumes way more energy than it used to
Your air conditioner simply can’t keep your home cool how it once did
Your air conditioner emits a lot of strange noises or smells
In general, an air conditioner will last anywhere from around eight to ten years, however they can last significantly longer if you take good care of your system. If your air conditioner regularly receives professional maintenance and attention, you can extend the lifespan out to as much as 15 years or more before replacement becomes completely necessary. In some cases, some people have been able to successfully keep their system running dependably for 20 years or more. However, those who don’t maintain their air conditioner properly or have it repaired professionally generally see reduced longevity and will need to replace their air conditioner sooner.
